My favorite hobby is photography. There is nothing I like to do more than go somewhere, grab a camera and shoot up some film. Every once in a while, something exceptional comes out. Although I use my photo gear a lot on my job as a fire investigator, when I'm shooting for myself I do mostly nature and landscape photography. I also occasionally shoot informal portraits, and even worked for a time as the team photographer for a AAA level professional baseball team. As you can imagine, I am the consummate vacation photographer, too. On many occasions, I have awakened Joanne at very early hours, or kept her up late at night while on vacation to go take some pictures!
I am frequently asked what type of equipment I use. I have been a Canon person since I started taking pictures.
I shoot exclusively digital and in July 2007 I upgraded to a Canon EOS-30D digital body. I also own a Canon 24-105mm f/4.0 "L" lens, a Canon 80-200mm f/2.8 "L" lens, a Canon 300mm f/4.0 IS USM "L" lens, a Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens, a Tokina 12-24mm f/4 wide angle zoom, a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro lens, and an assortment of filters, flashes, teleconverters, extension tubes, supports, bags, etc. I also still have my first digital body, a Canon 10D, which I keep as a "spare".
I am self-taught in photography, and as varied (and large) as the above list of equipment is, don't be fooled into thinking that the equipment is what makes a great photo. The photographer, in "seeing" the image he's about to take, is what makes a great photo. Some wonderful photos have been taken with very basic equipment. The key is to go out and shoot! Film is cheap!
On this site I'll share some of my favorite pictures, and hopefully you'll like them, too.
